Okay. I need a project for pre k and k. I'm doing a camp for Montessori, and we are doing Travel around the world. I've done some great projects this summer, but I need something for Mexico, and I am going on vacation that week. I need a simple project that I can leave for the classroom teachers to do, for classes of 3-6 yr olds. They will have 40 minutes to introduce and execute. I have done Mexican Sun Faces in tooling foil, with sharpie color, in the past, but have already done a tooling foil project this summer (irelend -- illuminated letters, thanks to a suggestion on teachers.net). Any suggestions?

Maybe this site will give some inspiration: The Art of Mexico
I'm thumbing through a book called "Kids Create" by Laurie Carlson. It's geared for kids 3-9.
There are two projects specific to Mexico in this book: Papel Picado and Paper Bag Pinata These links have similar instructions to those in the book. Even more Mexican arts/crafts are at dltk-kids.com.
Or maybe you can combine one of the concepts from the Mexican Art site above with these types of activities:
• Create an envelope (great travel connection!)
• Create a pop-up card
• Create a doorknob hanger
• Use plasticine instead of clay and make a coiled pot
• Stamping with carved potatoes or sponges, or with fingerprints
• Crushed aluminum foil sculpture
• Sand candles (a beachy motif)Frequent Mexican motifs:
• sun
• coyotes, eagles, snakes and jaguars
• skulls and skeletons
• roses and other flowers
• crosses
• geometric patterns
• masksA project that's really full of saturated colors says "Mexican art" to me. For example,

I had a couple of girls at the middle school who were of Mexican heritage. They were very engrossed one day with making tissue paper flowers for a family event coming up.
